Tioman

So unlike the rest who went to redang, I dont have an epic bus story to tell. My holiday was quite normal and tiring like it was expected to be.

We booked a nice direct 10:30 Pm bus from Bwtth that only stopped in ipoh to pick up 7 people. The bus driver made record time. We reached the Ipoh bus station at 12Am. Record time of 1 hour and 30 minutes to Ipoh.

Arrived at mersing at 7:30 AM and had to hang around till 10:30 because that was the next possible time for the ferry. There were these Souvenir shops that sold lots of stuff. All of us were looking at the nice 10 buck key chains and almost bought them. In the end we didn't, which was a good thing cauz those very same key chains were sold for 5 bucks at a duty free shop on tioman itself. :0

Our package was not bad, we got 4D3N including ferry tickets, 8 meals and a boat for 1 whole day to go snorkel ling for a nice price of 375 bucks. I had to pay 395 thanks to the fact that James pulled out of the trip. The bus on the other hand came up to 130 bucks to and fro.... :(

Day 1 was a free day for us, so we decided to do some swimming and ended up playing cards in the night.

Now this dude here is called pak alang. You'd recognise him from a couple of MSN DPs.... He basically owned this shop that sold food and drinks and there were like 5 shops side by side and because his TV was playing HBO, the 5 of us chose to sit at his shop. And we kept coming back everyday for four days. His methods of cooking were fantastic. He has this fed-up look on his face no matter what he did. He looked like he was kinda sick of his job and wanted to be a millionaire or something like that. And gosh, he was slow. My lunch took 30 minutes to arrive. :(

Day 2 was our snorkeling trip. We shared this boat with 2 Malay dudes who didn't know how to swim. I actually got up at 7:30 to eat breakfast... [so much for holiday] and got on the boat at 9AM. Reached the diving site at like 10 and soony and I decided to snorkel without the life jackets. So while the others were using the ladder to get off, both of us jumped off the boat from the other side. After swimming for 5 minutes, i got back onto the boat and put my life jacket on. Its one thing swimming in a overhead pool, and another thing swimming in the ocean where you cant see the ocean floor and when you do catch a glimpse, all you see are scary ass corals.

The 2 malay dudes, Sheng and cE were funny as hell. All of them couldn't swim and they were hanging onto the ladder for dear life. The guy on the boat had to coax them into swimming away from the boat and looking down into the water. You know those round donut floats that are orange in colour and are only used when somebody falls off the edge of the boat? Well, they gave one to cE. He had a life jacket + a float! LOL!

After visiting the diving site and the marine park, we were taken to this place that had a few duty free shops. look at those excited people below...

I was shocked when i saw that. It was on the floor of a pondok near the place where we got off our boat. In case you haven't realised what that is, Its a Ambigram! On the floor of a pondok built by the government!!!!! [it says water btw...] Now i can safely say that Malaysia is improving.

Day 3 was crap. We decided to trek to this village near by and the plan was to leave in the morning. But all of us overslept. so we ended up trekking after lunch. The people there said that the village was 40 minutes fast walk. They failed to tell us that it was 40 minutes fast walk UPHILL. Stupidness. what goes up, comes down. And true enough, u go up a hill, you go down a hill. The disadvantage, the trek back was ALSO UPHILL. =.=

In the other village which was called paya village, there was a rock fall. And as usual, DSLR's were being whipped out along with tripods and stuff...

And tardar!

And some other pictures:

If your looking for a nice [cheap] holiday to some island, why not tioman?

Oh btw, duty free isnt as cheap as you think it is...
